Last Weekend
First, I would like to thank Cheryl Cambridge and Diana Castano of the BSS Diversity Office and The Boeing Company for allowing me to help represent the company at two important events. The first was the 25th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Dinner sponsored by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Greater Los Angeles and the Martin Luther King Legacy Association on January 21 at the Biltmore Hotel. The second was an Enterprise-wide Community Forum sponsored by Boeing to which the leaders of Boeing affinity groups, HR focals, and Community and Educational Relations people were invited. The latter was on January 31 at the Westin, LB. These were both very educational events and I was honored to be there.
Last Saturday I attended a matinee performance of Sisters Matsumoto at the East West Players ($15 rush ticket). This play was better than I'd expected, featuring a veteran cast. The plot was about an extended Japanese American family returning to their farm after being released from an American concentration camp (President Roosevelt's terminology) at the end of World War II. Just when they thought things couldn't get worse... The play is fairly thoughtful, including dealing with frictions within the Japanese American community that have only recently been brought into the open for discussion.
