Sep 20 Saturday, 1:30 PM Judgment Without Trial: Japanese American Imprisonment During World War II by Dr. Tetsuden Kashima. Reading and Book Signing at the JANM. Judgment Without Trial reveals that long before the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. government began making plans for the eventual internment and later incarceration of the Japanese American population. Author Dr. Tetsuden Kashima, who is currently a professor of American Ethnic Studies at the University of Washington, uses newly-obtained records to trace this process back to the 1920s, when a nascent imprisonment organization was developed to prepare for a possible war with Japan, and follows it in detail through the war years. Kashima will speak on his findings followed by a question and answer session and book signing. The book is scheduled to be published in August 2003 and will be available through the National Museum store. Published by University of Washington Press.
